Author Name (Small, Henry Beaumont) Title The Canadian Handbook and Tourist's Guide Giving a Description of Canadian Lake and River Scenery and Places of Historical Interest with the Best Spots for Fishing and Shooting Binding Hardcover Book Condition VG Edition Second Edition Publisher Montreal M. Longmoore & Co. 1867 Seller ID 19430 5 1/4" x 8" gilt-pictorial cloth; ex-library with usual markings and quite a bit of general wear. The nice feature of the book is the presence of 8 original albumen photographs by the great Canadian photographer, William Notman. Most of the eight are small - approx. 2 1/4" x 3", but the frontispiece is a striking photo of an "old trapper" in full garb with a pelt thrown over his shoulder and a trap slung from the other shoulder. Each of the photos has been stamped (yikes! ) along the bottom corner by the Louisville Free Public Library; but the stamp is small and could possibly be erased or matted over. The photos are faded but still striking and in particular the frontispiece (which is larger, 3 1/2" x 5") is a powerful image of the era.
